Fansipan is located in range of mountains called Hoang Lien Son, to the South West of Sapa town, Sapa district, Lao Cai province. Fansipan is 3,143 meters high, the highest mountain in Indochina, thats why it is named Roof of Indochina. Fansipan in local language is Hủa Xi Phan, which means large tottery rock.

Sapa is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Vietnam and an outstanding destination in Indochina tours for its unique climate, beautiful landscape, special culture and Fansipan. This mountain is regarded as a gigantic natural reserve with more than 700 rare and endemic species. Fansipan vegetation is divided into different classes. At the foot of the mountain, there is a dense forest of bombaxceibas, jack-fruits, arbors, forming Leu and San ravines. Above 700m is the place for precious timber including cypress, abies, cryptomeria japonica, red pine, etc. There are hundred-year-old Fujian cypresses which are 50 60 m high and several arms wide. Fujian cypress is called the gold-mine of Lao Cai province. During the trekking Sapa Fansipan journey, tourists have a chance to see the unique beauty of azalea. It is said that there is nowhere in Vietnam that has azalea blooming in dense as beautifully as Fansipan. Besides Da Lat, Sapa is another place famous for various kinds of flowers. The place is always filled with the colors of gladiolus, peony, mountain-ebony, etc. The higher the tourists reach, the more amazing the scenery becomes. Trekkers may feel as if they could touch the clouds. From 2,800m, the surroundings look more clearly, the sky is blue and vast, clouds embracing mountain peaks, everything is surprisingly close to your eyes.
